Our commitment
Vera Assisted Living is committed to making vera-alf.com accessible to people of all abilities, including residents, family members, and partners who use assistive technology. We treat accessibility as part of the care we promise.
Target standard
We design and build the Site with the goal of conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Conformance is ongoing and we review the Site periodically.
What we have built
- Alternative text on meaningful images;
- Semantic HTML structure so screen readers can navigate headings, lists, and landmarks;
- Keyboard-accessible navigation, including a hamburger menu that responds to Enter and Space keys;
- Color contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG AA ratios for body text;
- Resizable text and a responsive layout that adapts down to small mobile viewports;
- Lazy-loaded video embeds that show a poster image until the user chooses to play, reducing motion and data use;
- Skip-to-content patterns where appropriate.
Known limitations
We aim to be honest about areas still being improved:
- Embedded third-party media (for example, a YouTube video on the Crown Court page) inherits the accessibility behavior of the embedding service. We use the privacy-enhanced embed and provide a play-button label, but cannot guarantee full conformance of the third-party player.
- Historical PDFs and forms that may exist outside the main site, where applicable, may not all have been remediated for accessibility. We are happy to provide an accessible alternative on request.
- Captioned video is added at upload time. If a video on the Site is missing captions, please contact us and we will provide a written transcript or remediate.
Requesting an accommodation
If you have difficulty using any part of the Site or need information in an alternative format, please tell us. We will do our best to provide what you need promptly and at no charge to you.

When reporting an issue, please tell us the page URL, the assistive technology you are using (if any), and what you were trying to do. We respond within five business days.
Ongoing review
Accessibility is treated as continuous work, not a one-time audit. We re-test the Site after material changes and welcome feedback that helps us do better.
